Description: "The Law, Policy, and Governance competency area includes the knowledge, skills, and attitudes relating to policy development processes used in various contexts, the application of legal constructs, and the understanding of governance structures and their effect on one’s professional practice” (p. 22).

 

Activities: 

• “Explain the concepts of risk management and liability reduction strategies” (p. 22)

  • I worked at length with two fraternities I advised to identify best practices for risk management.  This involved understanding and communicating fraternity policies, university policies, and local and state laws.

• “Describe how national constitutions and laws influence the rights that students, faculty, and staff have on public and private college campuses” (p. 22).

  • I have received training on FERPA, Title IX, and Clery reporting.  In addition, I have a working understanding of F-1 and J-1 regulations as they result to international students’ visa status.
